The Secret to Keeping Wedding Flowers Vibrant
Every bride dreams of holding a bouquet bursting with color. Roses that blush, dahlias that glow, and petals that feel alive. But once the big day fades, the color will too. Without expert care, even perfectly pressed blooms will lose their vibrancy over time. That’s where professional color correction services become essential in flower preservation.
Color correction is part of the floral preservation process that can add a more colorful and engaging view of your floral preservation piece. Color correction is part of my creative process and what defines our studio’s approach to floral preservation craftsmanship. Our pioneering technique has set a new benchmark in floral preservation.
At Vancuterie, we are the nation’s leader in color correction for pressed flowers. Our use of advanced painting techniques helps keep the petals vibrant for many years. Our color correction process goes beyond simply “touching up”, it restores the true pigment and tone of each petal, carefully blending hues so your bridal bouquet preservation looks as radiant as your wedding day.
What Is Color Correction?
In floral preservation, color correction is the art and science of restoring or enhancing faded pigments in dried or pressed blooms. As flowers naturally lose moisture, their pigments oxidize. That means reds turn rusty, purples fade to brown, and whites can yellow. The color drain process is real. And, if you have any roses in your bouquet, they are going to require color correction. Roses are notorious for their color drain!
Our team uses professional-grade artist pigments and color-matching methods to recreate the original shades with precision. I like using Pan Pastels (they are a dry, powder-based paint) and alcohol-based markers for my color correction. For application, I use make-up sponges. I have tried every application method available and super market sponges are my go-to. They are tried and true and easily purchased. I highly recommend.
This summer I experimented with turmeric and beet root powder. I thought the results were impressive. The turmeric has a deep sunflower, golden hour orange. It really stains the petals. The beet root was interesting, but the hue wasn’t as deep as the turmeric. The use of roots for color correction has always been on my list of how-to’s. Over the winter, I will experiment more with this medium. It is definitely something to consider as we move towards a more eco-friendly and sustainable business model for our floral preservation pieces at Vancuterie.
Why Professional Color Correction Outperforms DIY
DIY methods can’t replicate the precision of professional bridal bouquet preservation. Without color theory expertise, floral anatomy knowledge, and the right tools, colors often appear flat or artificial. Our studio uses specialized palettes and micro-brushwork to correct subtle undertones, shading, depth, and texture. A great example is the gradient on a ranunculus petal or the lavender haze of a delphinium.
We recommend using archival-grade materials that slow UV degradation and pigment decay, ensuring your preserved wedding flowers remain vibrant for decades.
